Yes, I know this is a ridiculous question. I'm going to Thailand soon and if I could buy a snorkeling set here I could completely avoid going to Phuket....

Wife and I went to Bora-Bora a couple of years back. Believe it or not, Hope-Plus was selling some decent snorkeling gear. Not the best quality mind you but we went diving everyday and the stuff worked well. Try Home Plus.

Any dive shop would carry the gear. You should know that a lot of Korean dive shops don't keep stock on hand. They will show you a catalog, then order for you. Service is usually pretty quick (the next day).

I've also seen fins and masks in E-Mart, but I don't know if this is the season for them.

You can try www.deepbluequest.com. they sell dive (snorkel) gear and can give you service in English.

Diver,

I have read both this thread and the one about scuba diving and appreciate the info.

I'm curious about your opinion in terms of buying vs. renting equipment for snorkeling. I am headed down to one of the islands in the Philippines for a week. Would it be better to buy equipment or rent it?

I guess it depends on whether you think you will use it again. If not, I would go with rental. Where are you going in the Philippines?

Thanks Diver,

I'll see if they have any masks to try on.

Santafly,

Phuket has 100's if not 1,000's of dive stores. They are everywhere.

Bearing in mind Phuket is having another terrible season I would definately pick up my stuff ther, whilst getting advice on where best to snorkel.

Kata and Kata Noi are my suggestions ^^

Enjoy your trip. I will be in Phuket in 3 weeks!

Scuba and snorkeling gear in Korea comes mostly from the US. I have met a few scuba/snorkeling instructors here that will sell equipment too.
