Saw it the other day. Haven't read the books, but was impressed with the movie. Apparently the author is predicted to outshine Rawling of the Harry Potter series. |

Doubt that. She's a good storyteller, but I don't think her books have the staying power of Harry Potter.
That said, I loved the movie. I hope they find a new makeup artist for the next film though!! |

It was quite a good movie, but it feels more like an extended episode of Buffy or Angel TBH. |

Now keep in mind I'm not claiming you said this, but that is a stupid prediction. It's like how every epic fantasy is compared to Lord of the Rings.
I downloaded Twilight (the book) as part of a SF/Fantasy torrent recently and decided to give the first book in the series a whirl. Now, whilst I haven't seen the movie and will not comment on it, I will say the book is (if you are not a prepubescent girl or have no delusions of becoming one) absolutely horrid. It takes every stereotype/fantasy of the typical girl who doesn't fit in and multiplies it by ten to get the main character. It's not a surprise why it appeals to a certain demographic, but I absolutely guarantee it will never see the widespread appeal that Harry Potter had. |

Please elaborate. Is she just a social outcast or the new girl? |

She's the new girl, but that's not what's he's getting at.
The main dude likes to cuddle, likes to watch her while she sleeps, professes to be madly in love with her, blah blah. Basically, he's a guy that could shag anybody he wants but he falls for her -- it's obviously written by a woman because he's so unbelievable.
The movie was well shot and well made. The books are pretty good. But it brings fantasy to a whole other level by creating a *beep*-whipped alpha male. |

Well, in her original school she is a social outcast, but then she moves to live with her dad and suddenly is the most popular girl in school.
(And as far as her relationship with the vampire...that is just creepy. Aside from what the_beaver already mentioned, the other just outright perverted part of their relationship is that the dude is like 80 years old. I really don't care for that message at all.) |

What message? The guy's a teenager (as far as the story line goes), a teenager by vampire standards. |

I disagree. He *looks* like a teenager, but that doesn't make him a teenager. I really don't care if he's young "by vampire standards." He's still old enough to be her grandfather. |

Don't forget the message of "you're only as good as your virginity" or "you're only as good as the man who deigns to be with you" as referenced by Bella's CONSTANT self-deprecating whining "Why are you with me, I'm so lame, waaah!" regardless of how often he tells her he loves her.
It's like a bad fanfiction. I'm kind of saddened by how many girls love those books because Bella is a terrible teen role model; she is weak, can't think for herself, and does whatever the men in her life say. Ridiculous. |

You're equating fiction to reality; big mistake. As far as the story's concerned, he's a teenager and she's a teenager. I mean, if you're going to be so concerned about age difference, why aren't you concerned about the interspecies aspect? |

I suggest checking out the movie "The Man from Earth", it takes a whole new angle on dating someone very old... |

Right? Twilight is the true literature of our times. I can't think of one halfway decent novel about vampires, and twilight barely qualifies as a novel. I mean, it has words in it and sh*t but thats about it. So does a box of cereal.
I also love somethingawful |
