Here's a weird bit of news from the Department of Defense.

"The announcement, from the Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury, requests "a highly interactive PC or web-based application to allow family members to verbally interact with virtual renditions of deployed Service Members." The application must "produce compelling interactive dialogue between a Service member and their families using video footage or high-resolution 3-D rendering. The child should be able to have a simulated conversation with a parent about generic, everyday topics. For instance, a child may get a response from saying 'I love you', or 'I miss you', or 'Good night mommy/daddy.' "

WTF? Sounds creepy as hell.
PS: the fingers and noses bit is just growing replacement bits in labs, for soldiers who've lost them.

I agree, sounds creepy, but at least it's more honest than John Edwards and all those other professional cold-readers.

You may have hit on something there. Perhaps the DoD could endorse a few 'real' mediums, and contract them to do seances with the dear departed servicemen.
They could get the mediums to wear some special high-tech looking tinfoil helmet that only DoD psychics would have access to; market it as 'special Area 51 Technology' maybe. Put the families into a spooky darkened room with the medium, pipe in 'I Will Always Love You' by Whitney Houston, and proceed with the old Ouija board BS...
Goodbye, low recruitment rates!

A copy of Unchained Melody and a potter's wheel would have the same effect. Just remember it's Whoopi Goldberg running her hands up and down you.
