US Agency Uses 'Sea of Japan' Again

A U.S. government agency in charge of translating foreign data has again started using the ``Sea of Japan" label, less than a month after it first dropped that reference in favor of the ``East Sea" label when describing waters between the two Asian nations.

The U.S. National Virtual Translation Center had started using the term ``East Sea" on its profile page for South Korea, when describing waters between Korea and Japan. The agency's profile page for Korea can be found at www.nvtc.gov/lotw/months/march/Korean.html.

But the agency has reverted to using the term ``Sea of Japan,'' its Web site showed Sunday. Representatives for the U.S. agency could not be immediately reached for comment.

The U.S. National Virtual Translation Center, established 2003, provides translations of foreign intelligence for all elements of the intelligence community, according to the agency's Web site.

Not absolutely sure about the Russkies, but we Finns call it Japaninmeri while the Swedes call it Japanska havet, both of which mean Sea of Japan. Thank god we are so insignificant that VANKsters don't care what we call that body of water.

Russians seem to call it as Японское море (Jap�nskoje m�re)... Sea of Japan! LOL!

Americans call it the Sea of Japan but I think we should make a motion in the UN to rename it the Sea of Kimchi. At least it will rhyme then.

I think the UN should concentrate on more important problems like the totally unfair naming of the so-called 'Irish Sea'. It's clearly a conspiracy by those sneaky Irish people to put one over on the poor, poor, hard-done-by Anglo-Saxon race. Obviously the only sensible name for it is the West Sea since it is clearly to the west of *my country.

The Koreans should at least have the balls to want to call it the Korean Sea. I mean seriously, the East Sea? East of fucking where? Who else in the world is even going to know where that is? Unless of course it is only important to Koreans to..........Ah, now I get it.

The ONLY country that doesn't call it the Sea of Japan is South Korea. Well then it's the SEA OF JAPAN.

There is no technical reason in Russian to not call it Японское море

But far more important to Russians in the protection of our islands just north of this supposed "Sea of Japan" --- Кури́льские острова́ --- which the Japanese have been trying to take over for past 50 years. [/b]

Out of those 4 small islands, Japan used to have 2, and Russia had the other 2.

Before they annexed Korea, Japan took the other 2 from Russia. After WW2, Russia was invited to take back their islands. They took them and the other 2 while they were at it.
