so my mum is going to come stay in seoul this spring for just under two weeks. shes already putting the gears on me, re: hotel bookings.

shes got cash, but obviously cant be staying at the W for 12 some-odd days. My brother will be studying @ Yonsei at the time, and i live in Bundang. I think she should stay near city hall, insadong or myeongdong, just so shes central enough.

does anyone have any recommendations?!

cheers

I just booked a few days for my mom at the hostel Holiday in Korea. Seems to be a good place in a touristy location. It's near Ansan station. Prices for a single room is 39,000 won.

depends on your budget.

Casaville in Sinchon is fine , has a kitchen and other facilities unlike regular hotels.........similar in price to 'proper' hotels but if they're staying for over a week, I believe you can get a cheaper price.

It's a Japanese business hotel concept...
I stayed in the one in Busan and it was clean and quiet...the one in Dongdaemun is fairly new so should be ok

Hyundai Residence--a 5-minute walk from Euljiro 4-ga station. A 2400 won cab ride from a major hotel (forgot which one) that has shuttles going directly to and from Incheon airport.

A room with 2 beds was something like 90k won per night. Fairly spacious and clean, although the location itself is in some sort of furniture/home appliance area.

Close to Myeong Dong and all those places.

my parents stayed in the president hotel. great location right on the city hall subway stop and near eujiro(#?) subway stop. a short walk to insadong and myeongdong and all the palaces. it was great because if i was busy with school or too tired to meet them for dinner they had many places nearby that had english available or english menus in the restaurants.

plenty of small business hotels in seoul from 40-50.000 a night.. clean, modern and central... look at her staying in a motel!

if you are in bundang, why not let her stay in jeongja behind the station there are some very posh motels for 40-50 a night.. you could probably get a deal if you pay for 10 days...

otherwise.. in seoul any motel will do.. 40 bucks..

Grand Hyatt, COEX Grand Intercontinental are two of my favorites. Ritz Carlton is also a nice hotel.

Yeah make sure you ask the rate for a week stay, ask for a discount.

I stayed at a love motel, which was usually 45000 a nite, but i got a week for 200,000, couldnt believe it.

I put my parents up in one. I wasn't paying, so don't think its because I was cheap. They wanted something close to where we lived. The place was really nice. They had a floor for people who aren't renting by the hour.

Excellent Myongdong location. Although somewhat buried between buildings, they can walk out the front door and are smack-dab in the middle of one of the fun touristy areas of Seoul. Close to the subway. Very clean. Free computers in the lobby. English-speaking staff. Book in person for them and save over online rates. If Skye is still working there, tell her hello.

The Oakwood near Insadong is great. My folks always love it when they visit.

When my parents were in Seoul, most places were booked out due to a holiday weekend in Japan. We ended up using the Rex Hotel (just over the road from Namdaemun Market) - it wasn't my first choice, but they were pleased with it and the location (right under Namsan) is pretty good.

I'd also recommend the Hyundai Residence if they don't mind not being right in the centre - it's close to Dongdaemun Stadium (and therefore 3 subway lines) and reasonably priced. The only issue I had with it was that the room smelled of smoke, so maybe check it beforehand.

Casaville in Sinchon is OK, but I find the 15th floor reception to be a real pain in the backside.
