|
|
Hey I was just going through expediia due to winter vacation coming up in Early febuary. I noticed one way tickets from Seoul to LAX were 450 and round trip around 850.
I have to say thats cheap: I noticed through most January and Febuary the ticket prices remained the same. Here is an example for anyone who wants to fly home.
from $839 Roundtrip
3:05 pm Depart Seoul (ICN)
Arrive Los Angeles (LAX) 11:10 am Tue 10-Feb
Duration: 13hr 5mn United 892 / 858
Connect in San Francisco (SFO)

I was searching last night and found good airfares, too. I went to Hawaii in August and priced the same ticket now. The fuel surcharge is around 250,000 won cheaper than it was then. Combine that with the weak value of the won and you can get inexpensive tickets in terms of U.S. dollars.
I priced out a ticket to Hawaii at a little under 900,000 won and it came out to under $700 in terms of U.S. dollars. Perfect because I have to visit in June. |

| So you guys are buying these tickets through expedia right? Not some Korean company site? I keep hearing how the Korean sites will never lower their prices, yada yada...true? |

I'm getting my lower prices on Korean sites. A big reason the fares are lower is because of the fuel surcharges. In August, I paid around 400,000 won for fuel surcharge alone. Right now, it's between 100,000 and 150,000 won for the same flight.
The prices also might seem low on Expedia because they are priced in U.S. dollars but a lot of people will have to convert the price to won. |

Kayak's good because it searches a number of sites.
I just found a fare to Hawaii for $637 leaving in two weeks. Would rather pay $50 more to fly direct on Korean Air as opposed to United. |

My thought exactly.
800 dollars is no longer 800,000 won, it's around 1.1m. You can easily get the same from korean websites.
There are a few Korean sites that are reasonable:
www.tourexpress.co.kr
www.072.com
www.onlinetour.co.kr
I have found tourexpress to be the cheapest and easiest to use.
Also to note is that an airline may advertise a low fare, but a huge mark up on taxes and fuel... whereas another airline may have a higher base fare but a much lower fuel surcharge (Cathay Parcific, in particular).
These things need to be kept in mind, too. |

Expedia has RTs from ICN to TYO for $238 (including taxes)
on United leaving from Jan. 26th-28th, returning anytime
Feb. 5th-8th. Tokyo isn't a warm climate but hey! You can
prolly even get it a few dollars cheaper on United's website. |

My ticket is complicated: $845
PUS - NRT - DFW - PIT: Jan. 24
DCA - ORD - NRT - PUS: Jan. 28
You can't really complain at that price with an open jaw ticket. |
