Certified teachers at international schools tend to work very hard and receive decent pay and benefits in many countries.
I was surprised to see an add for a Canadian school here in Korea is only paying 36000-40000 won a year and expecting the teachers to work 9-530pm.
Thats not much more than I get with my after school and regular pay a month at my public school job and I leave at 4:30. I also don't have to give tests and grade papers.
To add salt into the wound they also said that 36000-40000 won was equal to 36000 to 40000 Canadian dollars. |

No kids and don't know what a p.d.s is and I am enjoying 5 weeks holiday at the moment and will enjoy about 10 weeks this year.
International schools also work their teachers much harder than public schools.
Those benefits you mentioned still don't explain 3000 won a month.
Even in China the international schools pay more than that. My friends in Singapore get about 70000 a year ( and that is not won) |

Singapore is an expensive country to live. Compared to Singapore, Korea has relatively cheaper to live.
Yes, International schools do not give you much more than other English teaching jobs but there are other advantages.
1. Because you are certified, you are free and and eligible to go any country on earth wherever there is an international school to teach.
2. Your experience will be a big plus when you look for a teaching job back home if you go back.
3. Housing is better than other Englsih schools.
4. There are extra money. - professional development, free tuition for your kids
5. Teaching hour is less than other English schools. I don't know what Canadian international school you are talking about but the one that I know has only 20 hours a week with free lunch. |

Why not check out on the registration site for 'real' International schools that this school in Korea is in fact a legitimate one ? Many schools and hagwons in Korea advertise themselves as International when in fact they are not. With the salary offer they are giving they could be a hagwon. Also the Canadian International school that advertises a lot is a rebranded hagwon |
