I'm planning to come to Korea in mid-February with my dog. I was wondering if someone could recommend a safe, clean place for her to stay until I get myself settled (I think that should be about 2 weeks). I've heard that vets will often board animals... I'm not really sure what's available out there (possibly doggie hotels?). If any once could offer any suggestions about places in the Incheon area, that would be ever so helpful.

As a side note, my dog is from a shelter and has a "unique" personality. She is quite well behaved but VERY nervous around new people.

I think you should keep your dog with you...
I mean as long as there is a roof over your head, dont see why you can't just leave your dog with you..

what size is your dog...

yes there are dog hotels, and vets house dogs...its not cheap...

A few of my friends suggested that... I'm going to be doing the EPIK training which is about 10 days long. I have no idea where I'll be put for the orientation period. I'm mildly concerned I'll be stuck in some sort of dorm. I suppose I could let my dog run around the dorm, but I don't think my roommates would be too pleased with me.

I've been trying to find a place online, but am having NO luck. It would probably help if I could read/write Korean.

And, um, how expensive is expensive? I know vets in Canada will board dogs for about $25 CDN a day. Is it more in Korea?

I had a similar problem trying to find a place for my dog to stay when I was on vacation. It can be difficult, but it is much easier up in Seoul. Down here in Ulsan, it was a long process. Here is what I did:

Thanks so much for the helpful advice losing_touch, I really appreciate it. I will definitely place some postings for a pet sitter. Because my dog has a "special" personality, I'm concerned about leaving her with a stranger, but ARK looks like the members there would be very understanding.

Definitely go to ark. Try and get a pet sitter from there, because since you'll just have arrived, you'll have no idea where's reputable and where' not. The majority are not. And even if there were doggy hotels here, which I'm almost 100% sure there aren't, I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them.

Just as importantly, your dog will be trying to adjust to an extremely new place, and will most likely need the tlc not provided at a vet's or boarding facility. Everyone over at ark has experience with nervous shelter dogs, hell that's what most dogs here are, so I think you'd be far safer doing that.

If they can't help, I'll recommend Chungwha Animal Hospital in Seoul till I"m blue in the face. The people who work there care highly for the pets, and they're not just stuck in cage all day when you board them.

you might want to teach your dog korean commands like " yogi-o" , in case it gets lost and a local is trying to save it.

If you are going to be close to Suwon there is a pet hotel on the fifth floor of the HOMEPLUS in North Suwon - very clean, bright, with super friendly, loving staff. I think it is 10,000w a day. Excellent price. Also, if your dog is highly nervous around unfamiliar surroundings and people you may want to bring a little bottle of Rescue Remedy with you. It is a natural anxiety remedy - 4 drops on a treat and calmness will start to set in and last for several hours.

A lot of vets offer boarding, but as far as I know Chunghwa is the only one in Seoul that will take your dog out for walks. I haven't dealt with them personally, but I know people who have and they have a good reputation.
