I am considering asking for the housing allowance instead of housing because I really want to live in a particular area. If you are living in a certain area are they more likely to place your school in that area?
Is the housing allowance still 500,000 won per month?
Do they give that to you at the beginning of the month, or when do they give you your first housing allowance?
Also, I know they probably won't, but is there any chance they will help you out with key money? |

Housing allowance, I should think, would be on your first paycheque... But with SMOE the problem is you just never know... My suggestion is that you bring it up with your school on Day 2 to make sure they get on it for you...
As for key money - unfortunaly the answer is absolutly not (states so in the contract) - nor will they help you with furnishing your apartment. |

THEY ARE MORE LIKELY, BUT IT IS BY NO MEANS A CERTAINTY. A COUPLE FRIENDS AND I HAD HOUSING ALREADY WHEN WE STARTED AND WE ALL GOT FAIRLY LUCKY. THE FARTHEST ONE OFMY FREINDS HAD TO GO WAS ABOUT 10 STATIONS AWAY, I ONLY HAVE TO GO TWO. THEY TRY THEIR BEST TO KEEP YOU HAPPY OR TEY KNOW THEY WILL LOSE YOU, BUT THEY STATE VERY CLEARLY THAT THEY MAY NOT GET YOU AS CLOSE AS YOU WANT

YES IT IS

FIRST HOUSING ALOWANCE IS ON FIRST CHECK, A MONTH AFTER YOU START, BUT MOST RENTS IN KOREA ARE DUE AT THE END OF THE MONTH SO YOU SHOULD BE FINE ON RENT

NO CHANCE ON KEY MONEY, AS HAS BEEN SAID, AND NO HELP WITH FURNISHINGS EITHER |
