Prosecutors Arrest Online Critic 'Minerva'
Prosecutors have arrested a man suspected of being the acclaimed online political critic who uses the pen name "Minerva."
The Seoul District Prosecutors' Office says a 30-year-old man identified as Park is being investigated on charges of spreading lies, including posting a false claim that the government ordered seven top financial firms to halt their dollar purchases.
The claim was sensitive given the won's steep decline in 2008.
Minerva caught public attention last year by accurately predicting the collapse of Lehman Brothers, which fueled the global financial crisis.
The man in custody admits to posting the information.

Do you think we can get in trouble for this for posting on here? Funny they didn't go after the "fan death" guys. Seems to be a bit of a double standard... |

gawd do Ks never stop thinking the world spins around them??
anyone at all who works in the financial services industry knew Lehman was on the ropes for nearly 2 decades.
they've been reorganized more than once even.
I knew it - and I'm just a tiny little microspeck in the gigantic cosmos of traders brokers and wheeler dealers of Wall Street - |

Wow...I can't believe that they would arrest a guy for being critical of the government. What is this, North Korea?
If anything, this could be a civil libel case, but not a criminal one. If he had no facts to back up his claims then he could easily be sued for libel if he damaged someone's reputation. But in this case, it's a group, not an individual so even that is questionable.
Freedom of speech is a big thing for me, so this really bothers me.
One thing I noticed recently is that the South Korean government blocks all access to North Korean websites. If you try to access a North Korean website from within South Korea you will get a warning page. I noticed this one day when I tried to go read the Korean Central News Agency's website, which can be very entertaining to read sometimes. I wonder what they're worried about? |

North and South Korea aren't really that different in their mentality. Notice how whenever koreans stop buying useless shit and speak up against their government all hell breaks loose? |
