Partly due to pressure from my gf and on the recommendation of my folks, i'm looking into the possibility of buying life insurance. I'm approaching thirty, and this is really the 1st time the thought has ever seriously entered my head. The problem is, i don't have the first idea about how much i should be expecting to pay and how frequently, and before i start shopping around i was wondering if anyone here could give me a brief idea of what to expect or what to look (out) for. All contributions appreciated!

I think your girlfriend and parents are conspiring to kill you.

If you don't have any dependents, what do you need a life insurance policy for? Who will be your beneficiaries? If anything I would get a small term life policy that would cover your final expenses should anything happen to you.

I would look into a supplemental disability policy before life insurance, something like AFLAC as well as some kind of catastrophic medivac policy with high limits.
