Hi,

I'm pissed off with my hagwon this morning, as they've refused my request for one day's vacation in April - they say that I can only take vacation days during 'holding periods' (two week periods where I'm not actually teaching).

It doesn't mention this fact in my contract, so should I push the issue? Basically my two brothers are visitng me from Thursday - Tuesday and I just wanted to take Friday off to have an extended weekend with them - hardly an unreasonable request.

I only teach two 75 minute lessons a day, and the other foreign teachers here are willing to combine classes on that one occasion...

If they don't budge then they can forget about seeing me at any more of their after work gatherings...

Thanks,

Rich

Laughing Laughing Laughing

Now that's funny.

Anyway, assuming that you've been a faithful hagwon monkey just don't take no for an answer.

Did you suck your teeth and say "very difficult"?

That's been like a secret password for me in this country.

What do you mean?

As for earlier comments, I am aware of the 'hagwon monkey' thing and it's something I am trying not to be. However, I've only been here for a month and so it has been a balance between not being a walkover BUT not pissing off my employer right from the start.

I've been happy to attend a couple of all expenses paid parties after work on a friday night, and generally they have treated me well. It's just that this is the first time something serious (i.e. important to me) has cropped up...so should I push it?
