| Can anyone provide me with a link for renting housing around Gangnam? I have been offered a choice of an allowance 600,000 or a flat sourced for me in Gangnam. At the moment I live in a shoebox so I'm looking for something decent. Any help appreciated, ta. |

You should check out the real estate agents in person.
For 600,000 won, you won't be able to find anything more than a one room apartment. Most officetels start at around 700,000 won per month and to get one of decent size, you will probably have to pay 800-900,000 won. |

If you are working in Gangnam central (as in near the actual Gangnam subway) and are willing to walk a bit or bus/train a stop or so u could look in Seocho area. Cheaper and (IMO) nicer.
Find out how much key money you have to play with too...assuming your company will front it. |

| Watch out they don't screw you on the maintenance charges. I had a (pretty) expensive place on Gangnam ro that I could afford. The school paid most, 400 I think, and I paid 200,000 a month. But the maintenance charge? Over 500,000 a month. Absolute bullshit. Read the small print. ( I moved out) |

| Yeah you'll never find anything decent in central Kangnam for that little money. Seocho is good, you can also try Songpa and Jamsil area. |

That's crazy. If you're looking at a one room, you can ask them how much the maintenance charge is. It shouldn't be more than 50,000 won.
For an officetel, it's not really set because they include your electricity in it and that's variable. For the most part, they have a base maintenance fee which is 4 to 6,000 won per pyeong + your electricity bill. For a decent place, you could expect to pay minimum about 100,000 won with the bills being higher during the summer.
You should ask what the maintenance fee is before you rent. I would also offer 50 to 100,000 won less than the asking price. They'll probably give you 50 but 100 might be a bit of a stretch. |
