I have received a job offer in this city, does anyone have any info about the area ? I understand it's about 30 minutes to Seoul, the subway runs there, and it's one of Koreas "green cities". Any good places to hang, or good expat bars ?
The contract I've been sent seems similiar to others I have seen, any specific info on ECC Kwa-Chun ??
Thanks |

Now that the holidays are almost over, maybe someone can help me ?
I think the town name might be spelled wrong by me before, is it Gwa-Chun ? |

Do you mean Gwacheon??? Where Seoul Grand Park is?
I've only been to the Park once, but I went with my Boss, and she said that Gwacheon is a really desirable place to live, because there are parks, and lots of "green" stuff around. Very expensive to live there. Yep the subway runs there, it's the light blue line. Closish to anyang, which is where i live, pyeongcheon, and yeah, roughly 30 mins to seoul. I don't live there, so can't really say much more than that. But from what I saw it did look like a nice place to live. And if you wanted to do privates, since it is an "exclusive" area, you'd be sure to find people willing to pay decent money. |

Gwacheon in one mental map of the area is really just another part of Seoul. It pop. is about 75,000 and is folded between two low mountians. Most people work in Seoul who live there. It is most low raise apt. buildings, but expensive as has been stated. For your work life, couldn't ask for a better place really, and for entertainment, going to seoul by the cars (subway), taxi, bus, is really really easy and as is it touted as the center of the universe by some has all on offer. Location is great, are your contract and school great? |

I drive through that area everyday on my way to work.
The city is small and VERY nice. I want to live there but it is SUPER expensive. Like I can't believe how expensive it is considering how it isn't super new or anything.
ECC is a good chain and if they got you an apt/villa in that town, well they can't be hurting. Means good job security.
Seriously, if there was a chance I could live in Kwacheon I would definately jump on it.
(just to give you guys an idea, I was looking at housing costs to buy:
17 pyong is like 240 mil won. 32 pyong was like 500mil won.
If I went keymoney, we are talking min. 120-150mil for a small place...) |

There's a huge Government complex in Gwacheon (hence the subway station name ) so that might have some bearing on the relative importance of the area.
Seoul Grand Park is quite good, but the zoo is absolutely horrible... |

Thanks for the replies, still negotiating/deciding.
Contract seems OK, no weekends, no AM classes. Kindy yes, more work during school breaks, single non shared apartment.
I don't want to be too far from Seoul though and 30-45 minutes can seem like a lot when you consider it round trip on an almost daily basis (if there is nothing to do in Gwacheoun).
Anyways, thanks, still have to sell the car and find someone to take my cat. |

its not actually 30 minutes away from seoul, its on the seoul subway line, and is technically in seoul but not in the middle. 30 minutes is really no big deal. I used to commute by subway 45 mins every morning and afternoon, its not biggie. |

It is like 10mins from Seoul by bus.
If you get a car, even better.
Kwacheon is inbetween Seoul and Anyang. There is lots to do recreation wise. Sure, on the weekends the action is in Seoul...but it isn't that far from Yangjae-Dong or Sadang Subway Station. |
