Does anyone know if there are any bank accounts set up in support of the families of Captain Chawla and Chief Officer Syam? I still have some money in my Korean bank account and will ask one of my Korean friends to transfer it to an appropriate account.

Cheers,

Duncan

I'd like to donate too. If there ever was a worthy cause, it's this one.

The Chawla family has a friend who set up the facebook page, it seems:

http://www.facebook.com/friends/?ref=tn#/group.php?gid=53830826146

Perhaps they could/should be the coordinator for that, although Prairemaker is probably the person who can find that out mostest easiesticly.

Yes, thanks very much Prariemaker. If you find out about any bank accounts set-up in support of the wives and families (they must have huge bills to pay) then please PM the details to me. I sent my bank card to my friend today so he can transfer the cash.

Count me in too.

It sounds like they could use some food, too. Are you allowed to send food (or donate and have food bought and delivered) to a Korean prison?

AFAIK you can't donate food to the prisoners. I wish we could because Mr. Chawla is a vegetarian and his captors seem incapable of giving him vegetarian food so he is subsisting on water and rice. The big problem is Korean rice is nutritionally garbage so his health is deteriorating. Sad

I believe you can donate books. Apparently Mr. Chawla is a Sihk and a very devoted religious man so he only reads religious books, so that would be a good thing to donate. There is more information on how to do so on the sticky thread.

I spoke with the Indian Embassy and V.Shipping. It is complicated to send money because there has to be some sort of accountability. V shipping is talking to their attorney about about tday, but I have not heard back yet and may not for a day or two. They are being taken care of though by V. Shipping and they are on top of everything in a very admirable way. No food can be sent ... ever.

In the mean time, everybody suggest books for the men, as they have nothing to do. Mr. Chawla loves anything to do with spiritual, and to repeat the Indian embassy in paraphrase, anything was stressed. Mr. Chetan is an avid reader of anything fiction. You can ship to Indian embassy and address and how you do is on sticky. Thanks. I will post when I know more. I hope this helps in the mean time.

Great news to hear they are now out on bail. That means they have more hotel bills to pay.
