Electronics are a pricy in Korea, so you can usually get better deals on things like cameras in the US. Amazon and Buy.com are good options, just shop around on-line and you'll be OK. |

Electronics are, pretty much, across the board cheaper in the US than in Korea. As far as I know the only thing that is reliably cheaper here in Korea is computer components, if you want to build your own computer. Korean import laws are protectionist, to put it mildly. |

In general, you'll get a better deal in America. If you're buying using dollars, you may be able to get a deal in Korea, though. |

Yeah, bring the dollars to korea and with the exchange rate it will be a better deal.
However, If your looking to get a nice camera, try ebay and do your research on which camera....Ebay will probaly net a lower or equal price. Don't be afraid of ued camera(point and shoot) if they have a good reputation. |

I found my camera in the US (Amazon) for half of what it would have cost in Korea.
I bought a Finepix F50fd.
Wonderful Camera, I think it's a generation or two old at this point.
You'll even find the crappy Samsungs for less in the US.
For a first Camera I suggest Fuji for party pics and Panasonic for Outdoor stuff. Also consider Sony as an after thought, more gimmicks.

I always feel like some kind of wacky tourist carrying a camera. I prefer my phone so that I can snap discreetly. Maybe I'm a little shy, I'm willing to admit.
Still, there is a limit as to how much stuff you want to lug around town. Just a thought. |

Typically, it would be cheaper to buy in Japan. The exchange rate might nix that idea though since the yen is riding high these days.
Shop around in Korea, then compare prices in Japan. If you need the new camera to take pictures while in Japan then maybe you can try to find some prices from Japan to compare with online before you go. |

Some of you guys need to learn how to shop....the camera dealers in certain places(like namdaemun) usually illegal import the cameras to avoid the tarriffs....you got haggle hard....Although amazon and ebay are your best bet I admit. |

You wont get a warranty on the grey market JP stuff, if you're worried about that. Also, there seems to be limited selection in Namdaemun. They dont import the newest stuff sometimes and try to pawn off older models as the newest stuff. |

I say search Gmarket (link below) to get an idea of Korean prices (it shows won and dollar, but the conversion may be a bit off). I bought a Canon G10 a month ago and saved $200 due to conversion rates.

I have a sony digital camera that I bought back in 2004. But I don't take pictures very often. I have been thinking of selling it. Would you be interested in buying it? |
