I am applying for teaching jobs overseas. Since I am an older teacher I will be getting rid of many items I own before leaving. Is it worth my while to get receipts before donating items to charity to help on my taxes next year? I am trying to sell stuff - but people aren't buying much in this economy. Then it costs money to put ads in the paper and sit around waiting for people to call and or show up too. I have been throwing away or giving away alot of stuff anyway. At some point I might just haul it all to the Salvation Army - so should I get receipts to help on taxes next year?

why on Earth would you ask that question in here? How would we possibly know what your tax situation is and whether it would benefit you to get receipts? I mean, there isn't a reason why you shouldn't get receipts - unless you're worried that the use of paper and ink will damage the ecosystem. And if you're asking whether the damage to the ecosystem is worth the tax breaks, I would have to ask you how much you think look to save by the collection of these receipts. However, this post could then possibly break down into some capitalism vs ecology debate, which could be just as bad as the awful God existence thread with everybody throwing in their two-cents and filtered facts. No sir, I think this is just one of those questions you're going to have to flesh out for your self. Good Luck and welcome to Asia
