uh huh - sounds like their MOST EXPENSIVE option for expats - which costs upwards of at least 180,000 a won a year service fee.

they have another one, much less discounts, don't know about fringe benefits but suits me pretty well - no fee attached - they just deduct the amount you've charged once a month - you can set the billing date - I've changed mine to suit my needs.

if you apply, just tell them you want the cheapest one available.

also bring in your contract w/you and pay slips of some sort, ID, etc.

it takes a little time - they will verify everything first and then messenger over your credit card to your home.

I've met him. Carl is a nice guy, and speaks English. He walked into my office (as many salespeople do) and I shoo'd him out. When he started speaking English fairly well, I stopped and listened. We chatted for a while, and he came across like a good person. I decided to help him out, and told him about the Korea Herald's site. I figure any English-speaking Korean interested in helping waygooks get a credit card -- comission or not -- is a good thing. I had a difficult time getting one before, and I figured this guy might be a plus for the waygooks around here.

There are scammers out there, too. For example, one situation I went through: one girl from Samsung wanted to charge me extra money "for English service." My wife blew a gasket over it, and reported her to Samsung. They said it's not their policy, and she'd be in trouble.

Carl is legit, though.

I will say, however, that you can't get one if you work at a hagwon (most likely). I asked him that specifically. Gotta be a public school or a univ., in general.

I think that's the one I have moose, but then again I'm not 100% sure.

One thing I did recently do is I was able to hook my KEB Credit Card to my Paypal account. Now I'm not going to transfer any money right now because the exchange rate sucks, but once it starts getting better, I may do a small test transfer.

Yeah Carl will need a payslip, your PS or uni contract and a photocopy of your foreigner card. I have the Neo Men`s card. It has discounts for Western restaurants, movies and gasoline. Not too shabby considering any other bank wouldnt even fathom letting me have one.

THAT would be awesome, i've been having a hella time trying to transfer money from my PayPal. I had to make a new checking account in the states in order to link it. Sad

For those that have the card listed, what was the membership/service fee? 180K as suggested?

I was offered a card by a rep who came to the middle school I work at. The 'screening office' agent called me later on and said that because my contract is with the school, rather than EPIK, SMOE and the like, I could not get a CC. Then she said I could if I made a downpayment of one million/two hundred thousand won I could.

Carl, help me please!

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Does this card require balance pay off each month, like the Samsung card? The Samsung rep told me that waeguks are not allowed cards with min. monthly payments. Just curious if she was full of it.

The store usually gives you an option of how you want to pay - all at once, over in installments (1, 2 or 6 mos?). I never had a credit card in Korea before so I just paid all at once with the check card.

actually it depends on the purchase - large purchases (I don't know the amount, sorry) you will be given the option to "pay it out."

smaller ones you'll be expected to pay off the balance monthly.

just ask when you receive it and activate it - all the terms can be explained to you then - tho you will probably receive a letter w/details (don't recall if it's E or K tho)
