|

Okay this past weekend I bought my first ever suit. I went to Hahn's in Itaewon because of all the good reviews I've read. I pick up the suit this saturday but after the second fitting I'm already looking forward to the final product.
Now, I want to buy some casual blazers/suit coats to wear with jeans and khakis. Hahn wanted 350,000 for one of his. I'm sure it would have been a stunner but there must be something much more reasonable right?
I'm hoping for the 150,000won range. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Looking at amazon and menswearhouse shows that there are blazers out there and suit coats for under 100bucks. There must be place in Korea where I can find them at that price.
edit: I also went to Dainty and they were going to charge 200,000 so it's getting there. Any other leads? |

I would check eBay. If you're looking for something really cheap that's more about style than quality, check out Dongdaemun. You can get a lot of cheap blazers there.
The one thing I would look out for is the length of the jacket. The jacket is supposed to cover your behind. I see too many guys wearing jackets that end at the waist and look almost like women's jackets.
Another good thing to do is to get sleeve length altered. If you wear a long sleeve shirt underneath, you should be able to see 1/4" to 1/2" of cuff (depending on personal preference) when your arms are down.

E-Mart carries a brand called Henry Brown that has sport coats, dress pants, and all other business and casual wear. Of key importance is they have sizes 110 and 115 for shirts and jackets. Also large waist sizes for pants. Their prices are good. |

First suit ever? I guess the lower-middle class is still a step up for him. Phoenixstorm, here's a helpful tip: McDonald's gives out free ketchup, so you can save money if you're willing to just eat out of little packets for a week. Might help get you into upper-lower-middle class. |

learn to haggle. they always high-ball it. 350 to me means ~200 depending on how charming you are. |

Victorology is a bit off on his requirement for a suite or jacket top sleeve lenght. The end of the material should end approx. 1 inch below your wrist when your arms are down by your sides. Sorry Vic. When your arms are laying on a table or at your sides when sitting, then you will see the sleeves of your dress shirt |

Well I'm 28 and have never owned a suit. Maybe worn a tie three times in my life.
Every office I have worked in has had a no suit policy (environmental consultancy can attract some odd balls.
To the op how much did you pay for your suit? |

You are looking down on a guy who's buying a suit by talking about social class? I expected more from you. |

got to agree with some people that it is odd to have never owned a suit before, still each to their own.
Are there any links here for a thread or whatever with info on what to do/where to go etc in itaewon for a decent fitted suit.
Thinking of splashing out on 1 in the next 2 weeks.
Thanks |

I'd have to disagree with you. It depends entirely on how long you get your shirt sleeves done. Not that I really follow GQ's fashion advice but...
http://men.style.com/gq/fashion/styleguy/suitsandblazers/565
"About a half inch of shirt cuff should show below your jacket cuff"
"Most men wear their jacket sleeves too long or their shirt sleeves too short"
If you're not showing any cuff with your arms down, your jacket sleeves are either too long or your shirt sleeves are too short.
Then again, it's all personal preference. There isn't a set rule but I'd have to say, showing a little cuff looks best. |
