Yes, USAjobs.gov has wonderful job listings, but I could never get an interview or an appointment out of the several hundred jobs I applied for that I'm totally qualified for. I even have 10 point veteran preference and still couldn't get a job. I didn't apply for teaching gigs, but contracts specialist, budget analyst, requisitions agent, and cost procurement officer are what I'm qualified for and want to do. It's extremely competitive as millions are targeting these Fed jobs for good pay, benefits, and more stable employment security. All of which nearly all of today's companies lack to offer their people.

You really have to know someone personally to get in. When I was in the US Army over in Germany, most all the base support civilian personnel I met had connections that got them in the door. Once in the door, then you're getting experience, meeting others in the industry, and can even get better jobs in the future if in a salaried career path in one of around 100 different countries. The wage earning positions don't offer much, but the salaried positions with benefits are highly sought after. People normally stay in a job 2 to 3 years if they want to move, but can stay much longer if they like it which is the case for those in Germany as it's a really popular country American expats want to live in.

Not sure why USAjobs.gov lists all these wonderfully good jobs that seem to not exist.

??? Sorry dude, but this post was ten times too long... I usually like the stuff you post, but instead of a home run, you hit a weak infield inning ending groundout.

Sadly, they are required by federal law to post job openings publicly. However, it is not a federal law to inform the applicant that they are wasting their fucking time because they already know who they are going to hire, and it ain't you.

Damn.
