When I finish up my contract I am planning to use my pension to travel around Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand (maybe Laos too). I'd have $4000 for expenses (my employer will pay my airfare). How long could I reasonably expect to last in southeast Asia on if I went on the cheap? |

I would say that could last you 4-6 months. |

Depends on how much you drink. Depends on your eating habits: fast food, small restuarant, nice restuarant. Depends if you like the tourist spots.
You probably could get a fair idea of how long you could travel if others would post the current prices for the common things. I haven't been to Thailand, Vietnam, or Cambodia recently but I can tell you about the Phillippines.
In a smaller city/town.
---hotel : 500 pesos ($10)
---4 hour bus ride: 100 pesos ($2)
---4 hour ferry ride: 600 pesos ($12)
---325ml local beer: 20 pesos (50 cents)
---lunch or dinner
-------pre-made pots: 20 pesos
-------restuarant : 80 pesos
-------fast food : 150 pesos ($3)
