THE search function had 14,000 entries.
I saw his recent (I think) movie Time. His thirteenth. Anyway I hear he is hated by Koreans but is a hit eveywhere else? Why?
He did Spring Summer and Old Guy or Bad Guy.

| There used to be a Korean movie thread or two kicking around. Kim Ki Duk is great, definitely one of the best Korean filmmakers around. He's not hated here as much as he used to be. His films have gotten quite a bit tamer and don't bring so many horrible things about Korean culture to light like they used to. (ie rampant exploitative prostitution in "Seom".) |

Yeah, I would say 'spring, summer...' was his break into the mainstream. It was artistic and deep as his other previous works but the theme was much easier for the public to understand.
Frankly, I'm still not sure on what 나쁜남자(bad guy) was about.
I find many of his works crude, callous, and rude. All of the qualities that doesn't quite appeal to the mass. |
