I live in Osan and want to start both a podcast and Youtube video channel. I get my first paycheck in a few days and was wondering if anyone could give me some good recommendations for both places to purchase at a good price and some reasonably priced models and brands in Korea that could get the job done. Value is key, but I want to avoid anything that won't allow me to make decent sounding and looking videos/mp3s.

For the podcast, I am thinking a good headset and Audacity on the comp should be fine to get started; anyone with experience think I need more? For the videos, I just need an easy-to-use video camera that I can upload videos from. Webcam support might be cool too, since most of my friends back home have cams.

Thanks in advance.

My Zoom H2 recorder has been just awesome. Quite a machine. I really didn't need to upgrade and add more mics, either. The Zoom just does it all well once you learn how to use it.

As for cameras, if you're using Youtube, I don't think you need to spend a heck of a lot. Might be nice to get something with a mic input, though.

Thanks for the input. What's a reasonable price range, and where would you recommend making the purchase?

You'll pay over $100 less in the USA, if you happen to be going there.

If you get one, do the firmware update, as I read it solves some issues. I've never bothered.

i'm into online broadcasting...

get a digital voice recorder, which records internet ready audio. This is good because it serves as an in-studio mic, but allows you to record in the field. They are not expensive. Don't buy a webcam. Buy a cheap HD video camera and have your folks ship it here. You can get a low end Canon HD video camera for $300, used or less. You also don't need HD.. You can buy a SD (lower than HD) for like $250, used. Again, this allows you to get out and about and create much more interesting material than a webcam which prevents you from doing this.

The HD video camera can be used as a webcam too, just download and install SPLITCAM software (free)

if you buy a HD videocamera, you cannot get HD quality while using it as a webcam.. You must select "SD" mode, which all HD cameras have settings for..
