I found this place that I would like to recommend - I'm sure it's not for everyone - but I think it's a pretty cool place

It's called Makeoli 막걸리 (thats all the sign says). It actually looks like Asia through the sliding door. Everything is wood, bamboo, and rice paper. The furniture looks antique. There is calligraphy on the walls. The place is tiny, seats maybe twenty. A young guy who appears to be the owner, since he's the only one that ever works there, where's hanbok. He makes the Makeoli, a couple different flavors, which he serves in a piece of bamboo. The neurungji 누룽지 makeoli (burnt rice) is exceptional - it has a smooth caramel flavor. There are some simple side dishes - warm dubu and kimchi, mushroom jun - all cheap and delicious. There is no English and certainly never any other foreigners. The place is always quiet, even when it's busy. Except for the music - the guy plays bossa nova, (real) jazz, cuban salsa - I've heard music there that I've never heard outside of South America except for my own collection.

The vibe here is totally different from the rest of Korea - it's welcoming. I go with my girlfriend when we just want to relax - but want to get out of the house. Ladies - I think the owner is really attractive - girlfriend doesn't understand why he stands out to me. Check it out....

Exit 3 sookdae ip gu yuk (sookmyung womens university station), line 4 - go out the exit and walk east, towards namsan (which is visible) and the northwest corner of Yongsan military base - take your first right and the bar is on the left - look up for the sign and listen for the music - If you miss it, the next right is the corner of the base/at a traffic light - the bar is a 30 second walk from the exit.

Tell me what you think

Thereas quite a good one...possibly 1 min walk up the road from
hard rock cafe in Itaewon

Arrow
you go down a small flight of stairs and there is two areas
a bar ( with pool table ) - to the right and a larger bar/ dance area
too

When I went about 6-8 weeks ago, it was early 10pm and was empty
