Has anyone else read this book? I think it's pretty good if you already know the general sound system (their pronounciation guide is crap). It's a collection of survival phrases and swears/insults/slang. Has anyone used this book and found the language authentic?

Making out in Chinese is also pretty good, FWIW.

Thumbed through it, and it looks good, but I was embarrassed to purchase it. Maybe I'll order it on-line instead. Stupid title...

Yeah, the title is a little misleading. It's part of a series and is probably meant to seem sensational to sell books. I bought the Chinese one in the Shanghai airport. I had the 2 volumes of the Japanese version. I might pick up the Korean version too. It's mostly for entertainment purposes, but they do have some interesting cultural insight. I wonder how outdated the slang is sometimes.

I sat down with this at the bookstore and texted my k-gf the most dirty stuff I could put together. She was so shocked! - ahh, I'm sure she loved it.

There's tons of useful stuff in the book, but most of it is very, very informal and should be used with care, or modified as to not offend. I've had it for 4 years and use lots of phrases I learned from it on a daily basis.

It's also a great icebreaker. In my early days I would actually bring it out and glance at it at a bar, or show it to friends I was drinking with. Before you know it, there would be a crowd of people gathered around reading all the swears and insults, having a real laugh.
