My contract is finished in February and then I'll be heading back to the states. I'm not in any hurry to get back there, and I'd like to explore some alternative travel possibilities. Have any of you traveled between Korea and the US without setting foot on a plane? |

Oddly enough yes - I've been on a 49-day cruise from Bangkok to San Francisco that included Pusan as a port of call.
Feb./March is the wrong time of year. There are no passenger vessels headed east from this part of the world until April and May; and you would have to embark in: Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing or Tokyo. |

a lot of people like to travel by freighter nowadays but I looked it up and it's pretty expensive - the ships have honed in on the market - a friend of mine went on a Russian freighter once she said it was great fun but very austere.
anyway, am not sure traveling the Pacific on a boat would be all that great? but then maybe it would - let us know if you go that way.
*on a side note* when I was in Capetown I met a couple of fellows staying at the same place who had just driven down from the netherlands - yes, all across North to South - from Europe to Capetown - don't recall what city they were from. They had a weblog and posted thousands of pix - apparently they were kinda famous for having completed the journey.
was funny tho - they sold their car in Capetown and flew back home! |
