There is now a D-4-4 visa category that has been created
specifically for people who want to study the Korean language.

The good news is that people with an E-2 visa can change to a D-4-4 visa in country!

I've been talking with various immigration officials for the past month and have continually been given different answers (with mos saying I hwould have to leave the country.) Today I got the news, and the official told me that it's on the government website for foriegners now too...but not on the main English immigration page for some reason.

D-4-4 has been around for quite sometime, as I've had one for over a year.

I'm thinking of changing my visa so I can study Korean full time later this year.

Can u work on a student visa??

The info from immigration seemed to say that i could have an E2 visa at the same time...but i'd need to get my school to agree to me working part time and to sign some form about it.

Does anyone know anymore about this?

What are the requirements for a d-4-4? Do you still need to have $3000.00 in the bank and the paperwork from the university?

If I were studying for only one semester would it be easier just to change to a tourist visa?

what's the difference between a d-4 and d-4-4? The d-4 says its for people studying korean at a university..

There is no difference as far as I'm aware. You still need paperwork, receipt of tuition and 3 million won balance certificate. Hwarangi, you cannot change to a tourist visa. You must leave the country and return to get one.

There is a difference between a D4 and a D-4-4 Visa.

According to what I've been told and the website an E-1/E-2 visa holder can change to a D-4-4 visa within country but has to leave the country for a D-4 Visa.

D4 visa is not specifically a student visa...it's a "general training" visa.
D-4-4 is specifically for studying Korean. From what I've been told, with a d-4, you'd have to leave Korean, come back on a tourist visa, and then change to a d-4 visa. With the D-4-4, you can do it in Korea.


You have to apply for a change of status and have the following:

-proof of admission
-arc card
-passport
-bank balance of 3 million or sponsorship of a Korean national
