I saw that a lot of people had them, just wondering how you do it.

Click on your profile, & scroll down to avatar control panel at the bottom of the page.

'Link to off-site Avatar:
Enter the URL of the location containing the Avatar image you wish to link to.'

And make sure it's a small image. (100 kb) Too many newbies upload huge images, that take up 3/4 page & squash the text into the remaining 1/4 page. Evil or Very Mad

Mine's about 136 x 140 pixels Even 200 x200 p is okay, but please don't upload 2,000 x 2,000 pixels. Right click on the image, to view its 'properties'.

An avatar should be no larger than 100 pixels on a side, so 200 is not o.k.

DON'T. The above is only a temporary file, which is removed after 24 hours. Worse, the image is replaced with a notification image, that far exceeds the 100 pixel limit.

LoL. It is a simple program to resize your image. That's all.

There are hundreds of FREE photo storage sites to put that photo afterwards....what's the problem? Or are people too lazy to send the image to their photo album storage folder? LOL.

ddeubel,

Thanks for the RESIZR link--a great free online utility. Just resize the picture, save it to your computer, and then upload to whatever server you use.

I also recommend http://tinypic.com/

You can resize your picture and host it there. MS paint is pretty simple to use for resizing too. Just open your picture, click image, stretch/skew and choose your new size.

http://imageshack.us will resize your image and host it.

Edit: No one has mentioned that you also need to make 100 posts before you can use an avatar.

Edit: Edit: Thank you mods for stickying this.

1. Why didn't you mention that in the first place?

2. Why is your avatar 142 x 123 p?

Yes, but I had to 'host' the image, in 'imageshack'.

When I looked at my avatar yesterday morning, it had been replaced with a notification image around 600 pixels, that resizr images are temporary.

My 100 pixel avatar seems to be fine, now, though.
