So, I'll be moving to Gwangju in March for some hagwon work. I've done the ESL teaching in Japan thing for a bit and decided to see what Korea has to offer. Having never been to Korea, does anyone have any good ideas on neat places to visit in Gwanju? Perhaps bars, points of interest, etc.?
Any info would be much appreciated.

http://www.mdspeakeasy.com/

I have only been to Gwangju once, it is a nice city.

The food there is super cheap and tasty.

People in Gwangju seem to be very cool and well educated...

There are no place crowded as Seoul or Busan. Most people drive.

I really love love this city~!

Best place to start if you want to learn about Gwangju is visit the GIC. Gwangju International Center. It is above the KEB bank on the 5th floor. There you can get a guidebook to Gwangju with a handy map and a lot of info on surrounding attractions and such. There is also a library that you can use if you subscribe to the GIC for 10000 won for 6months. From there you can find everything you need to explore the city. Also pick up the Gwangju News which has a small map of the downtown with all things western listed, the Speakeasy, underground grocers and other things. Hope this helps.

Which Gwangju? There is a small city east of Seoul that shares the same name as the larger one in the south of the country.
