I am with Show. My voice rates are ridiculous on pay-as-you-go. I think I pay about 350 won per minute.
Consider going on a plan. |

I got on a 6 month KT plan through a Korean on their existing account, but had to pay a 55,000 won activation fee, and it's like 300 won a minute. 1 hour of outbound calls costs 18,000 won. And then the 13,000 won basic fee is tacked on making it cost about 40,000 won per month if talking about 1 hour a month. Inbound calls are free.
In the states you get 400 to 500 minutes plus free inbound calls and free nights and weekends with little or no activation fees for $40 a month. These are prepaid cell phones such as through US cellular! Korea overpriced. |

Won't I have a problem getting a cellphone with a plan because I am not a permanent resident? I was told I could only get a used cell phone with a pay as you go plan.
Could anyone tell me how and where they got their phone and what their plan provides them with? I will be living in Gangnam so if there are places around there to go to that would be great.
Thank you! |

If you walk into an LG store, you can get a contract plan phone for cheap. you need your ARC, bankbook, and eyes and a finger to point to the phone you want. |

Now let's work on getting my unlocked Canadian iPhone 3G working. Maybe they can add my IMEI to the royal database of foreign phones allowed for use here.
I tried with my friend's KTF card, and wehn getting into a network, I get a message saying that its a restricted network.
I can feel the sparkle... nay, shimmer falling down all around me. |

Well there is no such thing as a cellphone for a "foreigner."
However, if you take to 1000 dudes in Itaewon, 999 of them will tell you that there is and that you have to buy cards to use it....
If you have an arc card and you want to do it hassle free without any kind of deposit then just go into your neighbourhood LG Telecom store. You can get your phones and choose if you want a pay as you go plan or a monthly plan. |

You haven't told anyone here about your residency, so how the hell would we know! |
