I am looking for info on the continued imprisonment of the captain and first mate of the Chinese ship involved in the oil spill off the west coast. I just joined the forum and can't send personalized messages yet. Any known articles or info would really be helpful. |

Dear Spicyfish,
My brother prairiefinder is still out looking for a prairie. He thought he found one yesterday, but it turned out to be a sorghum field instead. Go figure. I hope it is okay if I answer instead.
All kidding aside, I want to thank you for your interest on this matter.
The best source of info on Dave's is the sticky above. There are a couple of other threads running right now on this issue. The sticky thread, "I spoke with the wife...has numerous articles, an excellent web site, feedback, and a contact number for V. Shipping which can put you in direct contact with men and families if they feel it is important to do so. You can also speak with Mr.Vaze, the first secretary of the Indian Embassy.
I especially like this web site for information off Daves ESL:
www.freehebeispirit.wordpress.com
Having said this, the men are out of prison on bail waiting the higher court hearing. They were released January 15 in the early evening. Korea Times and the Korean Herald both covered this in Saturdays papers. I believe someone has posted theses stories on the thread and two threads have been started on their recent release. |

Yes, it's a fairly good site. I especially like the 6th and final posting that you can't see in the menu on the right, but that contains an updated list of the main news articles to come out about this whole story. I imagine the site makers will keep updating it through the hopefully final Supreme Court appeal hearing, whenever that will finally be. Hopefully, the good sailors will at last get to go home to India and then back to sea sometime after that. |
