I just saw on BBC there is a fire in the subway system in Deagu, at leat 10 dead and 100 injured, more feared dead. Smoke it toxic. Witnesses saw a 40-year-old man throwing lit bottles into the underground.

Yes, it is on CNN, but not on the Korean news channels. Interesting.

Actually it was reported on the 12:00 news, as well as on the Yonhap News Agency website.

BBC World News (clip on 2 minutes ago)

-at least two seniors are dead (unconfirmed)
-at least ten still trapped underground

Considering thick black smoke is still billowing out from the underground, things don't look very good....

CNN says there are 4 dead and maybe 100 more injured.

"A man in his 40s dressed in a tracksuit set fire to a plastic milk carton containing a flammable liquid and threw it inside the subway train," a witness told Yonhap news agency.

"When the man tried to use a cigarette lighter to light the box, some passengers tied to stop him. Apparently a scuffle erupted and the box exploded into flames."

Yes there is.

My Korean girlfriend, who watched the news, did not know about this incident.

Furthermore on MSN chat, I chat with a fair number of Koreans. NONE of them knew about it.

Interesting I learned about this on Dave's Esl Cafe and then CNN...

Koreans all over the Web are right now commenting on the lack of coverage, many blaming it on the fact that it happened in "the provinces", rather than Seoul.

And thank God the suspect is Korean.

"The provinces"?!? Sheesh, Daegu is the third largest city in South Korea!

The parallels between Seoul and Toronto are eerily similar.......
