She hasn't released an English album yet, but here is a single

Do you think she'd make it? That's her aspiration. She also sings in Japanese and has sold over a million albums in Japan. I think she released a mandarin Chinese single too. |

She won't. She'll be like every other Korean pop star. Big in Korea, and useless to the rest of the world. |

^ Let's face it though....if you haven't made it in the States, you haven't really made it. |

The thing about that BoA single and the latest Rain single is that they're not a whole lot different from what's popular in the US now. If I heard that BoA song on in the background somewhere I wouldn't find it strange. Same with that Rain song (if he did it in English). Yeah, they're not very good, but none of the stuff the kids back home listen to is any good. I think she could go either way . . . she blends so that's good, but she doesn't have anything distinctive about her, like Beyonce or Christina Aguliera became stars. In spite of the Asian fetishes in the US, people like looking at them more than hearing them.
When I make fun of Rain and Boa and them it's b/c of the context . . . some Korean star isn't out to start a career in the US, it's always about "conquering" the US market, or "taking over the charts," or whatever, when in reality they sell like 12,000 singles in Koreatown and that's it. |

First of all define 'making it'? Did Rain make it? Maybe in some Korean ethnic enclaves but after a few shows, an MTV appearance (obviously paid for), a couple of small roles in Hollywood films he is nowhere here, not in the papers, no magazines, no tv, no posters, no nothing.
Did he 'make it' by South Korean standards (Rain is an international star)? No, definitely not. But he could probably fill a few theatres with predominantly Asian-Americans (not really Korea's ideal of making it).
America loves nothing more than an Asian girl who crosses over to date non-Asian guys. So if she wants to be big, this is what she should do. Hook up with some black hip-hopper (maybe diddy), or one of the Jonas brothers or someone white, black, or whatever (Ricky Martin? Straight?). This will be the best way for America to get to know her*.
She will, however, be a leper back in the korea.
*or a sex tape with a non-Asian Hollywood star that 'leaks out'. |

She looks very masculine in this video. Is that really what North Americans like to see? |

Just what the US music industry needs- MORE "fake rappers", who grew up in the suburbs, tilting a cap and acting like they're BAD. Whatever.
Drop BOA and Rain in a BAD neighborhood, and see how long they last before they pee their panties and cry. |

The song is not bad. But video kind of looks like something Paula Abdul did years ago. |

What is she offering to Americans and English speaking countries?
A pretty Asian girl?
Some nice dance moves?
A so song?
Who is going to put pictures up of her on their wall and want to be like them?
I dont think white girls growing up in Iowa!
Black singers bring Attitude and lifestyle! They bring a Genre! So they can be mainstream even though their race is a minority...
Asian singers don't bring anything...
Jackie Chan and jet lee bring kung fu!
BOA and RAIN don't bring anything white America wants!
Best bet for BOA is to try and do collaborations with other RnB stars
Or hip hop stars, try and get down and dirty! Get out in society and have some pictures of you doing stupid shit, not paparazzi pictures of you in a club on ASIAN night with all your Korean handlers surrounding you like dogs in the VIP section trying to look cool by holding a glass of cola!!
Be seen with some bad boy rappers, be seen at parties hanging out with the in crowd, wear some sexy clothes, and make friends with Brittany etc...
You want fame in USA and the rest of world! You need to express something... That 12 year old good girl image trying to be grown up and cool doesn't work State side!
they will be popular in the states with their Asian fans , koreans and asians studying abroad there..
but thats about it.. her only hope of success is to drop SM entertainment and go with an American label.. SM and those korean guys have no clue!! |

Not sure if that chick will make it, but I think this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpYgvrzVq-U has a better shot (not Korean, but from this side of the Pacific). |

Who cares? IMO George Bush should nuke the ghettos.
Just about 95% of the best hip hop dancers do not originate from bad neighbourhoods. Heck, its gay guys coming up with the good new choreography half the time. |
