Hi I was working at a hagwon earlier and got a letter of termination for something that wasnt even my fault. I dont have the time or the money to make complain to the labour board. However I am now thinking of working for a public school since I have heard that there are less chances of getting screwed over by your boss. My plan is that I do 6 months at the public school and ask for a letter of release. The reason is I have a lot of commitments and didnt know I was gona get fired. So if I finish 6 months at the public school I can return home on the day that I was originally suppose to finish my first contract. I know there wont be a severance pay and will have to pay for my own ticket back home.
So can I ask a letter of release from a public school on the 6th month? Or do the public schools handle letter of release or termination differently from private schools? |

A letter of release is up to the school. You can definitely have your visa cancelled though.
Talk to lawyers at Seocho during their advice session for foreigners on Monday during 2-5 pm.
Get a public defender and go after your hogwan, etc. |

OP, you only need a letter of release if you plan to transfer your visa to another employer. In your case it sounds like you will finish 6 months and then go home. No letter of release necessary.
You will need to give 2 months notice to your PS (varies by district) so after 4 months, inform them that you are leaving. Otherwise you may lose your security.
The ethics of signing up to a year contract with no intention of keeping to it, aren't exactly spotless, but if you give your notice and stick to the contract, I think there's nothing wrong with that. |
