Heading to Gwangju (Jeolla) this weekend, and wondering which bus terminal to leave from.
I heard that it's 3.5 hours by bus, and longer by train, is this correct?
Cheers. |

Express Bus terminal. It takes 4- 4 1/2 hours depending on traffic. KTX is like 2hrs 45 minutes but costs more. |

Depending on where in Seoul you are you might be better off leaving from Bucheon Terminal (Songnae station).
Yongsan KTX or slow-train is about three hours, and gets you right close to downtown gwangju. The Bus Terminal is not quite so close to downtown, but still pretty close.
Bus is more comfy. Seats recline.
Train=not so comfy, IMO...seats don't recline on the KTX now, unless you go the 56 buck deLuxe seat. If you do that, you get free water and crappy snacks, though, and a newspaper.
Or if you're loaded you can fly from Gimpo for 78 bucks, and then subway into the city from Gwangju airport. Takes 35 minutes to fly. |

Actually, 3 1/2 hours is more typical for the bus ride from the Express Bus Terminal. But sometimes, it has taken as long as 4 1/2 hours, but this almost always happens during the holidays. Otherwise, expect a 3 1/2 hour bus ride. Finally, if you leave very late at night or very early in the morning when there is basically no traffic, the bus ride time goes down to 3 hours. |

Thanks a lot for the replies.
Might try taking the KTX, it doesn't seem too expensive for the time saving. |
