Hi there,

1.) I got my criminal background check with the official apostille from the Secretary of State. I do have a misdemeanor for a DWI back in 2007. Will this be a problem for me when it comes time for the Korean government to issue me a visa number? Better yet, when I have to go through my interview with the Korean Consulate for the final approval and stamp?

If anyone has any knowledge/experience with this subject matter....that would be great. I'd hate to do all this legwork and spend all this money, just to find out I won't even be able to go !

2.) Recruiting company: AskNow (Access South Korea Now). Their website (www.asknow.ca.com) seemed very professional and informative...but I'm wondering if anyone has any actual experience with them? Feedback?

3.) What about SLP Language Institution in Busan (Haeundae)?

I think that's it....for now Smile

Thank you!

Whether the DUI will stop you from getting a visa is anyone's guess. The individual Immigration Officer who reviews it will decide. Some people have been rejected for traffic violations (which shouldn't even be on a crim check as they aren't crimes, but infractions) and others have gotten through for more.

You won'te have an interview unless you get a visa number...

Any time a CRC shows any record, no matter how minor, apparently the director must sign a special form at immigration saying they will accept this situation and still wish to employ the person. Recently though in Busan immigration a friend of mine, already living here, was refused a visa to go to a new school. They said it was because he had a minor DUI by, despite the employer saying it was no problem. I guess there are no hard set rules then.

Whether or not you are denied because of a DUI completely depends on the immigration officer. Unfortunately there is no definitive list of what will get you rejected and what is acceptable. I would make it clear up front the circumstances surrounding the DUI and make it known that it was a huge mistake and something that you deeply regret happening.

As for AskNow, they are pretty good. A couple other good companies are:

Do you mean that it depends on the immigration officer in Korea who issues me a visa number??

If the immigration officer in Korea issues me a visa number.....is there a still a chance that they could deny me a visa when I have my interview here in the states?

I assume once I have the visa stamped in my passport....then it's a 100% go and they can't change anything once I arrive in Korea.

The chances are slim to none that you would be denied your visa at the consulate. Once you have the number its pretty definite that you will receive the actual visa.

The "interview" that you have to go through at the consulate usually consists of about 5 questions.

All admission/rejection decisions are made at the immigration offices in Korea. Unless you were to show up to your interview slobbering drunk or something of the sort, you will get your visa.

Have you considered getting a CRC from another State?

Don't even get a state CRC. Get a local background check that isn't in the area of your DUI.
