I have an F2 visa.

I am on vacation from my school. They don't want me to work outside. I have accepted an offer to work at a hagwon for 3 weeks (14 working days, excluding one holiday) until their new teacher can arrive. I have negotiated 30,000 per hour, but had to come down from 35,000. I have told them I need to be paid weekly, and they agreed.

Should I make a short contract with them? What about tax? Any pitfalls I should be aware of? Any suggestions?

Also, the hagwon wants a copy of my ARC. Not sure yet why. Maybe just to be sure I'm an F2? If they notify immigration I am working there, will immigration notify my FT employer? I don't want them notified.

Thanks.

Get paid before you start working.

It's a short stint anyway.

Even 35,000 for an F2 is really cheap. Are you working long blocks to compensate? There's no legal pitfalls at all. The school might not want you working outside, but there's nothing they can do to stop you, short of firing you. It's up to you to decide how likely that is.

The worst thing that can happen in the hagwon is that you don't get paid. Threatening to picket them while the mothers are coming in would spook most hagwons. Or sic your wife onto them. Loudly complaining that you've not been paid would really be bad for business.

A copy of your ARC is standard procedure. I doubt that the hagwon will notify them anyway. Immigration don't give a shit about your working location and will tell them so. They only care where you live. Your wife is your sponsor, and that's it, as far as immigration are concerned.

Keep in mind that PS don't always know the visa regulations. They may have certain standard procedures, and deviating for your convenience isn't worth the bother. If it's for their convenience however...

One last thought. With an F2 there are far more lucrative opportunities than public schools.

Hi,

Thanks for the info!

It's a hagwon, not a PS. The only reason I jumped at it was that it's 4 to 5 hours each day at 30,000 won (long blocks) and fits me perfectly for the short time I have (3 weeks).
