Hi
Im a Korean who grew up in Australia and therefore consider English to be my native language
Im a primary (elementary) school teacher in Aust and would like to work for an international school in Korea. There seems to be a lot of schools hiring at the moment for the 2009/2010 school year. However I have heard rumours about Korean parents not wanting non-western teachers and therefore will be difficult to get a job in international schools. Is this true?!?
After a quick look at a number of international school homepages, I have noticed that 99% of the staff are western born with Korean born teachers only in roles such as music, art, Korean and ESL NO classroom teachers. I am a classroom teacher and would like work as a classroom teacher not ESL , Korean, etc as I have no training for it.
I was wondering if any of you guys work or know someone who work in international schools. Would the fact that Im Korean and look Korean make it difficult for me to get a job in International schools, even though I am a native English speaker?
I am also fluent in Korean.. would this help at all??

We hired two Korean Canadians in our last round of hiring. The primary criteria is a B. Ed or M. Ed. and teaching certificate. As long as you have those two things your ethnic background is not a big factor.
Hagwons, however, do consider that. |
