| I'm not; the performances were better than the overall film. That was showcase for Mickey Rourke as an actor (as opposed to being a well-written or well-directed film). |

| Compared to last year a every weak group of movies. I'd give it to Milk but 'There will be Blood' or 'Atonement' would destroy all of these movies, especially Benjamin Button. How the hell did that get a nomination? |

It's a lot of BS nominations, so-called Serious films.
Milk_Gay rights so it's important.
Button--Aging and death so it's heavy stuff.
Slumdog--Arty because it's foreign.
Frost---Political so significant.
Reader--Holocaust say no more.
Three better movies just off the top of my head are Happy-Go-Lucky, Gran Torino and Dark Knight. Into The Wild (if that's 0 Lots more.
Last year was an aberration---Oscar bites and always has. |

Gran torino! Are you serious? Let's go back and give an oscar to Dirty Harry while we are at it? Or those old Charles Bronson revenge flicks.
Last year had " There will be Blood" and "No Country". Two movies in a completely different league to Gran Torino and both fill none of your above criteria for oscar movies. |

I think it's a pretty weak crop of nominees this year. Haven't seen Benjamin Button yet though I have downloaded it. Looking for a big block of time to watch it in one sitting.
I think Wall-E should have earned a nomination maybe in place of Slumdog Millionaire. |

Clint Eastwood for Changeling ought to have gotten a Best Director nod, though at least Jolie got a Best Actress nomination for her role in the film. It's up for Best Cinematography and Art Direction because the city scenes of a hundred years ago were amazingly real, using detailed, expensive, elaborate sets and props instead of just slapping a lot of modern digital technology in postproduction.
Changeling is like LA Confidential in many ways, and better if you like drama or just different if you're into suspense. |

| Slumdog Millionaire was very good but I just watched the reader and it was boring. They should have had flashes of the past so we could have sen Kate as a young girl starting out her job as an S.S. officer. |

I agree the Changeling is a better movie than the nominated ones. |

I'm not sure, but I think the best movie I saw this year was 'let the right one in.' Damn creepy, original, and well acted, it stuck in my head more than any of the 'serious' nominees...
Of the nominees, I'd say the Danny Boyle 'slumdog' one was the best. |

In Bruges not even getting a nomination is a joke. Slumdog is a cute story but nothing special, just a City of God rip off really. Benjamin Button is just Forest Gump 2.0. My favorites of the nominees are Milk and Frost/Nixon.
Watched the Wrestler last night. Still trying to decide if I liked it. |
