|
|
My friend's contract expires at the end of this month. He's looking for a hagwon job, preferably in the bundang area but a good hagwon is more important than a good location. He's an American with 6 years' experience English teaching experience in Taiwan and China. Does anyone know a decent hagwon that is hiring right now?
He has all his documentation in order (CRC, degree etc) and is ready to start ASAP. His apartment keys need to be handed back on February 1st so he needs to find a position with an apartment by that date. Can anyone help?
Cheers. |

he could get a motel room for a couple of nights. Minbaks and Yeogwans are cheap. I'd contact ESL PLANET to see if they have anything. If nothing else, comb through the job ads on this site and post his resume. |

Thanks. He's already doing those things but if he can get a heads up from a currently working teacher recommending their hagwon that would be preferable to taking his chances. He's already got a contract (which he hasn't signed yet) with a hagwon in ori but I've told him that the contract sucks and not to take the job. Anyone know of a good place? |

with all due respect - he's got 6 years experience - why does he need you to help him? not to mention his bad planning to wait until the last minute - I learned that even before I took my first job here the better jobs plan ahead - the ones who hire asap are usually the worst.
either there's something else going on you aren't sharing or he's not - either way - sounds a bit fishy
surely he knows about goshiwons? rent one for a month and he can find a suitable position. |

Those are fair questions moosehead so I'll answer them.
You are right about the bad planning. He should have done his due diligence but he didn't and now he's paying the price.
In fact he's been given the shaft by his hagwon (who shall remain nameless) so he's been working out his notice there and job searching for the last three weeks - one week to go.
He didn't ask me for help but he's feeling very demoralized (it's his first teaching experience in Korea) so I've been dishing out big gobs of moral support and I offered to post on Dave's for him as he doesn't have a user ID.
He has been offered a contract but I've told him that it's a dreadful contract and not to take it. |

so he shouldn't do another one so fast right off the bat - yes - he should listen to you
help him find a goshiwon - they are great for in between jobs - I've rented them each time I was out looking, then you can take your time, make a visa run and move into a new place all in good time. |

I understand that your friend needs a job. So why not click JOBS on top of this page and see the options and if it fits your friend's criteria, e-mail them everything that they need.
simple.
Anyway, good luck |

Thanks to all those who replied and sent pms. My friend is chasing up a couple of possibilities but nothing concrete. We're still interested in hearing about other jobs.
Cheers. |

EPIK is still hiring. He could start in March! And with 6 years experience, he'll be making decent buck. |

Going from Bundang to Boonies? I wouldn't recommend it!
There are tons of jobs in Bundang. If he decides to go the goshiwon route, make sure he keeps an eye on his visa. If his job cancels it, he has 15-30 days to get out of the country. It'll buy him some time but he still has to watch out for that. |
