I am a senior in college planning to move to Korea after I graduate in May. I am looking to get the F4 Visa since I was once an Korean citizen. My main motivation is not to make money. But I wanted to know whether the opportunities are still worth it to look for jobs at hagwons.

Hoping to find job opportunities that allow me to spend time with my extended family and pursue my own personal projects in country.

I understand that Hagwons usually pay the most if you find the right place.

Public schools and Universities gives you the most time off.

Would supplementing my income with private tutoring be a good bet to fall back on?

Looking answers for these questions:

1. Can I make enough money to be independent in Seoul?
2. Will I have enough time to spend with family while fulfilling my duties as a teacher?
3. Is the economy so bad now that teaching English is not a good option?
4. Is being a Korean American going to hurt my chances for opportunities?

Thank you for your time.

I'm not a grammar nazi, but please, come on. If you're writing on a board for teachers about wanting to teach English, then at least clean the basics up a bit.

Second, the answers to most of your questions can be found in the FAQs.

Good luck.

The title of your thread is amazing! It manages to be both condescending and inaccurate at the same time.

교포, 더 정확하려면 재미교포 이라서, 여기보다 더 좋은 정보근원을 찾을 수 있잖아요.

Best of luck to you!

Did I do something really wrong? I don't understand.

In response to the first post, I admit that I can brush up on my grammar.

To the second post, I did not know this forum was off limits to Korean Americans. My Korean is not so good. So I thought I might find some help here.

Thank you for making me feel welcomed.

Don't underestimate what a degree from Boston College is worth.

Have you tried networking with alumni?

1. You should have no problem making enough money to sustain yourself comfortably.
2. That all depends on the type of job that you choose. Most likely, you will have sufficient time to spend with them.
3. The economy is bad, but you can still live comfortably. You may not be able to save as much as you would like to.
4. Once again, that depends on the type of job that you are looking for.

This site has become less about helping people.

yup yup Idea Wink

I don't think people look kindly on people who just look for others to do the research for them. The "search" function can answer all your questions and more.

I just joined this site a few months ago in search of a job. Frankly, I feel sorry for this kid in that he is asking a legit question. Yes, his grammar is not stellar. He and other new members have joined recently and gotten the "cold shoulder." Get a grip you people. I think this is an excellent site on the whole for a first time ESL teacher whether in Korea or International. It's how I landed my first gig, but the "search" routine can get tedious. FAQ is fine, but some of the current members of this site should get the twist out of their knickers.

The sarcasm does border on rude. I've been knocked a few times, but have been around the block so I just shrug it off and have gotten better answers to my immediate Korea adjusting concerns on Koreabridge.com. Yes, we all should spend endless hours going through back posts perhaps - but when it's over two years old, things do change.

I would suggest that anyone wanting to teach in Korea do a google search for expats teaching in Korea for example. You will find a lot of good info, particularly in day to day life, teaching, socializing, etc.

While the tone in this thread is a tad rude and harsh, I think that a certain level of disdain is appropriate.

Imagine if someone posted this on a message board for IT workers: "Hi, I want a job in Silicone Valley working with computers. I don't know anything about computers. Now could you tell me how much money I can earn in IT?"
