When the bell rang this morning, the class leader raised his hand and made a memorized speech that went something like this:

"As you know, this weekend is Happy New Year and at that time we tradition present a gift to old people and our teacher. We prepared at this time a tiny gift for you."

Whereupon he handed be a big heavy shopping bag with a shiny gift box of 6 bottles of Pantene shampoo and 4 bars of Ivory soap. Very Happy Practical and useful. AND I know that the bubbles represent 'good fortune'.

You can imagine my relief when it wasn't a gift box of Spam.

got one of those giftsets from the grocery store too.. The Principal had me come for a 20 min meeting in the middle of my class and after saying a bunch of stuff in Korean, I was given a giftset and allowed to go back to class >_>

6 tubes of toothpaste (2 median, 2 median that says 71%.. what does this mean??, 2 with korean on it but looks like theres berries or something)
4 bars of happy bath soap (lavender, apple vanilla, olive, and milky powder)
Shampoo and conditioner (mise en scene)
Body soap (happy bath cream aroma.. smells good :p)

I like everything except the fact that I just bought toothpaste and soap that'll last me longer than the time I'll be here. Now I've got more Surprised

Has anyone ever used the median toothpaste? Is it any good?

A big box of delicious kim (seaweed laver) like every teacher. It is ideal for the person leaving in 3 weeks who has always declined kimbap and during staff dinners ordered biminibap without kim because they can't stand kim.

It was a very thoughtful gesture that was regifted immediately. Nice to know that after 4 years at the school, that they have noted my preference to be kim less.

This is said "tongue in cheek" with a grin at the way the individual is prized.

Cute.

I'm at PS. F*ck all for me. Except some coworkers giggling when I wished them a happy Seollal. Because, you know, anything I say in Korean is hilarious.

Hm. I miss the students.

12 cans of tuna, pretty practical for me and about 50 apples. Maybe this should be moved to the buy and sell forum...

50 apples for sale, great condition. Never used - received as present. Will work in American or Korean mouths.

Denmark ham set.

6 spam like containers of "Denmark Ham" and 2 bottles of grape seed oil.

i have a sneaking suspicion it is actually spam.

If it looks like spam and tastes like spam...

Anyways, it's the thought that counts I guess.

This holiday sucks. I got nothing.

Still, I would feel bad to get a bar of soap as a gift. "What, do I stink or something?"

I didn't get one for the lunar new year, the school's been closed for a while except for the students taking the teacher exam.

I did get one for our new year, a sweater, from my boss, a sweet woman. It either makes me look gay, or like a little boy, I can't decide which.
