I've been making ratatule (spelling?) and am wondering if Costco is still selling Parmesan cheese. I read an article somewhere that Korea had banned Parmesan. Can anyone confirm or deny this? And if Costco still sells it, I'll be very happy. But the hellocostco site or ezshopping Costco site (can't remember which) says it's sold out. Thanks. |

Yes.
I bought a huge chunk last week in the Sangbon (or Mangu) branch. |

Can I use my American Costco card in Korea? Or do I need to buy a new membership? |

You'll have to go to the customer service desk first. They will check it on the computer.
If it is still valid you can use it. If it is expired you will need to get a new one.

Korea and some other countries actually banned buffalo mozarella from certain regions of Italy due to dioxin and other contamination caused by illegal burning of trash by the mafia. A caprese salad with Italian buffalo mozarella is a thing of beauty. This was really unfortunate!

Well, I went to Costco in Daegu today. All they had was a one-pound block of Parmesan for 33,000 won. Too much. I had gotten some Kraft Parmesan there a few months ago. A huge plastic jar for around 15,000, if I rememer correctly. Does anyone know where I could buy the same? Thanks. |

Yes, as per my post above. It's a huge chunk, but if you freeze it and only take it out of the freezer to grate it'll easily last a couple of months. |

I've always used Kraft's pre-grated parmesan and also have purchased it at Costco here (btw, much cheaper than 15,000). I can't remember exactly but it hasn't been available for months, I'm sure at least 4 months. It also wasn't available in E-mart for quite some time when Costco stopped stocking it. I've seen it recently in E-mart, think it was about 4000 won for 85 grams. Assuming Kraft's at Costco was 750 grams, that would put E-marts price at about 35000. In fairness, if Costco were to stock it again, it would likely be around 15,000 given the current weak won. |
