While there is the 'instant friend for life or until I pass my TOEIC test-- whichever comes first' phenomenon, there is the other kind of relationship. You have to learn to sort through the offers. |

I call them "language leeches." It has occurred.
Is this true?: I know for a fact that Korean society forbids interracial relationships and heavily looked down upon.
Aww....geeez! What will I ever tell my Korean wife? troll...shouldn't you be attending interviews?
Years ago, when I was a single man, I dated, loved, romanced a large number of Korean women over the course of a couple of years, so stick that in your societal pipe and toke on it! |

generally NO!
the super hot popular korean girls will not date foreigners!
actually a minority of K chicks will date foreigners..
I bet you your currect kchick has had a foreigner before you..
you go to hongdae or itaewon, 95% of the time the korean girl you are about to take home has been with foreigners before..
or you might be one of the first, and be getting that korean girl who is curious about foreigners...
due to language barrier, social pressure, family matters, acceptance amoung friends the majority of korean girls don't date foreigners..
there is a small band of girls who date foreigners and they are beeing passed around... that sounded aweful hahahahaha |

korea is a large place with a native population that heavily outnumbers foreigners. i guess one could argue that koreans don't generally date foreigners based upon the sheer number of koreans who don't. that'd be an easy way for koreans, and maybe you, to conveniently ignore the fact that interracial dating and, gasp, marriage are on the rise here. not just farmers and mail-order brides either.
the fact that i, along with the bulk of foreign male and female friends i've had here, have had no trouble in the dating category shows how much more open korea is becoming. i say this because i'm talking about black friends, jewish friends, christian friends, brits of indian descent, lesbians, gays, and the ocassional newfie. they're not just trawling itaewon/hongdae like itaewonguy mentioned either, although his statement certainly rings true. hell, some of us even married koreans! |

Are you really a kyopo? Your opinions are totally primitive and seem
to lack even a minute knowledge or Korea. Have you just come back
to Korea to visit some long lost relatives or something? Life getting
a little boring in South-Central or Compton?
Also, when did you become the official spokesperson for "Korean
Society"? I think you are just a little miffed because Korean women
aren't impressed with your "gangsta" kyopo image. Classy. |

I have a Korean wife with an amazing baby boy and another one on the way.
My wife is highly educated and speaks English fluently. She is a middle school teacher and has lots of respect.
I think the Koreans that look down on Korean women who marry or date foreigners are uneducated and have the farmer in a suit syndrome. If someone has a problem with an "interracial" or "international" marriage it is their problem. As well, this thinking will never allow Korea to succeed into an advanced country, which will be left nothing more then an average country.
I really wish the west was like Korea, so when Koreans go abroad they experience what they do to foreigners here and get a taste of their own medicine.
Finally for the Korean troll I would like to add that kimchi sucks and smells like ass and Dokdo belongs to Japan. |

I think Koreans are like everyone else - they are attracted to handsome or beautiful people - if you are a handsome or beautiful foreigner - you are going to be able to date handsome or beautiful Koreans.
I knew a very handsome Polish guy who couldn't maintain a steady realtionship with any English woman back in the UK because his English wasn't good enough (though he could speak it well enough) which I think is the crux of the problem with any person wanting to date Koreans here - the better your Korean is - the more chances you will get to date.
I think people think this place should be like the Philippines or Thailand where any fugly loser can get off the boat and have hordes of women because they are white - thank christ this place aint the same. |

Theres nothing racist about any of those statements
Courtesy of the wiki...
Racism is the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
[u]
He's only speculating/commenting on trends that he has observed in Korean society.
My wife, who is Korean, holds very similar views. Most Koreans simply can't overcome the language barrier in order to have a meaningful relationship with someone western. It's simply a matter of preference - I would argue that Koreans(like all races) prefer to date those who have similar values to their own. |

Keep in mind that most Koreans only have a very low number of relationships in their lifetimes. The chances that one of those partners is a foreigner are pretty low. On the other hand, the ones who do date foreigners tend to become village bikes. |

This is the general forum and your asking if Koreans generally date foreigners.
One famous Korea women generally dated a general, he was japanese and she killed him by dragging him into a river.
So I guess the answer is yes. |

RT, this is neither here nor there, so don't take it the wrong way, but did your wife date other foreigners before she met you?
My wife is Korean, and she claims she had only been with Korean and Japanese guys (she used to live in Japan). I didn't grill her about it, but it just came up in the course of learning about each other. I've had more ass than a public toilet seat, so I'm in no position to get uptight about what she did before she met me (and we met in our mid-thirties, so obviously we're both gonna have some history).
Her English, while not bad for general conversation today, was almost zero when we met (I had to speak in my broken Korean). That would indicate she was probably telling the truth when she said I was the first westerner she'd been with.
I guess I explain my situation and ask you the question just to be nosy. Feel free to ignore, but if she had dated foreigners before was that at all a source of discomfort for you (or would it have been if that was the case)? |
