Could anyone give me the name of a mild, over the counter sleeping pill, that I can get from a chemist here? I've just started my winter vacation schedule, which is delightfully empty, but I have to work in the mornings now, and my bodies just not used to going to sleep earlier than midnight, which sucks when you get up at 7:30/8. So can someone help? I'm not looking for sleep remedies - lavender, hot milk, etc, I want the hard stuff.

I asked the pharmasist in Canada about them, to try to get my sleeping patterms back to normal, and she reccomended gravol- which is generally used as an anti nausea medication. I bought some and forgot about them, let me know if you want them

Blue flower....

Lets see: you say going to bed around midnight (no earlier then actually) so lets say 1 am.
The having to get up at 7:30-8am...well thats a solid 7-8 hours sleep!

You need more? Laughing

The exercise thing is a great idea.

If you are descended from felines, which you seem to be if 8 hrs of sleep is "brutal" to you, then I suggest getting you body used to going to be earlier by steps.
If you usually hit the sack at 1 then tomorrow hit it at 12:30, then a few days later 12...and so on.
Your body will gradually adjust and the exercise will help you along.

Outof curiosity just how much sleep do you consider sufficient? Laughing

And did you know too much sleep is just as bad as not enough.... Wink

You can ask for "azol", but in Konglish pronunciation it comes out as Ajol.(short o)
Some pharmacies won't give it without a prescription, but you can usually find one who will. They are strong, but non-addictive, but I warn you, you will feel a little "low" the next day. Myself, I've switched to Nyquil for those can't get to sleep nights. But those azol really did the trick. Sometimes if they didn't have azol they gave me something called "arun" which was supposed to be the same thing.
(I lived in a super noisy neighbourhood at the time and was a very light sleeper. )
Hope this helps.

Blue flower. It is possible to obtain OTC sleeping pills here .I will try to find out the name, but be warned, they tend to leave one feeling VERY groggy the next day, worse than a short nights sleep. For this reason I have switched to meltonin, a natural product that the body produces less of as we get older. Two of those babies will have you in never-never land in no time without any side effects, add a little red wine and you're sleeping like a baby.
Melatonin is available at Hannam Supermarket.

You shouldn't take medicine to sleep, you should change your lifestyle.

And all that. But I know exactly what you're talking about. I take Benadryl at night. In the US the same drug is marketed as both a sleep aid and an antihistamine. I tried taking it for my allergies and it kept putting me to sleep, so now I take it for my allergies at night.

The drug name is Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride. I also experience a similar effect from Zyrtec which is Cetirizine.

Night owls should NOT have to be to work at 7 am!!

ask for 'contac.' someone suggested nyquil, but i think contac will leave you a little less groggy the next day. if not, you can open the capsule and empty a bit of the contents for a smaller dosage.

Thanks all - I do like a lot of sleep! Im just used to it at the moment, sleeping in till 10/11, after going to bed at midnight/1 am. I am so bone tired at 3 pm that i want to nap, but i know that if I do, i won't sleep later.

I'm getting to the stage that I'm over tired, and every little sound at night, from my loudest fridge in the world, to my ticking clock, really irritates me, and hence prolongs my wakefullness.

I'll try the melatonin I think. I don't want to be any groggier than i am at the moment. Today, i was planning my lessons for the next 2 weeks, and i totally got the dates wrong, three times!!

Isn't Contac one of the ephedrines? It has Ephedrine, Pseudoephedrine, Norpseudoephedrine, Phenlypropanolamine, or Methylephedrine in it. Would definately NOT put you to sleep, more of an upper. Nyquil makes you drowsy because of the alcohol. There is much better tasting alcohol out there, even in Korea!
