Here's one for ya.

I might be splitting the land of the everday spitting. Anyway, I just started my current job and I have until April to get my alien card. Well I haven't even gone for my medical in order to get my alien card. Can I just opt out of getting it altogether? Will immigration fine me for not handing in my ARC at the airport?

Not sure about immigration, but in theory (though I've only ever heard of it happening once) any policeman may stop you and demand to see it. Also you can't get health insurance, or a phone, or internet service etc without it.

My main concern would be getting hit by a taxi, or catching TB from the spit, or falling in a hole on the sidewalk and breaking my leg... and not having any insurance.

You have 3 months to get your ARC and be legal with Immigration. So, you can leave in April and since you have no ARC, you have nothing to turn in.

But, in the interim, your school cannot sign you up for health insurance or pension without your ARC. In your case though, you had an ARC before, so they might be able to continue you on your health and pension by just using a photocopy of your old ARC (the number would be the same) or just telling them the number. You might also need your ARC to collect your pension before you leave.

One other little twist, however. Your school must register you with the local education office within 10 days of your first teaching day. To do this they need your ARC. If you are not registered withing 10 days, you are an illegal teacher. Your school could be fined by the education office.

IF you quit, leave, get fired within 90 days of your arrival and DEPART within said 90 days then you do NOT need to get your ARC.

If you go to 91 days and still have not applied for your ARC you will be in trouble.

Mr. Policeman can just look at my passport.

I don't need to get a phone and I already have the Internet through work. I'd have to go get my medical done and wait for my alien card anyway, so having an accident wouldn't be a concern if I were planning to leave in February.

They can't continue my health and pension because my last alien card was cancelled. Actually need to get that first.

And this crap about the school registering me with the BoE isn't going to fly in my books. I've never gotten my alien card within 10 days of my first teaching day. I am not teaching illegally. Get real.
