I just got a couple of bottles from 7-11. Why does it taste metallic and overly bitter?? Still beats Hite btw. |

some coronas are brewed here, others are imported from a base or leftovers that have been kept around too long.
a recent taste-test debate with a couple of friends reveled a Cafri to taste pretty much the same but w/o the metallic after bite |

You know, I thought that maybe I could have a little taste of 'home' (I'm not from Mexico) with these 2 Corona's.
But what I get is what I've grown used to here in lovely Korea; a watered-down (or fake, phony, or otherwise sub-par) substitute for what I was hoping.
I've given up on beer in Korea. It's official. |

I really liked Corona when I was back home. It was one of my favorites. But, it tastes like crap here. |

corona comes in clear bottles - could've been damaged by light.
or it could just be really old. how many people do you see buying corona? that means it sits there for a long time. i've seen lots of beer on the shelf way past its "drink by" date...the bottles are even dusty sometimes.
once had a coors light at woodstock. it tasted worse than usual. i imagine i was the first person ever to order that particular beer. |

Yes, I agree with your points of reasoning. |

Different preservatives added to the beer. For instance, Heineken in Holland tastes different from Heineken in the US. That's all it is. |

Previous poster hit it. Beer brewed in different parts of the world taste differently, albeit the same brand. Budweiser sold in Europe tastes nothing like Bud in the U.S. I tried selling Corona in my pub in England, and it failed miserably. For one thing, no one knew what it was, but I thought it tasted a little off as well. Bud, though, still had the name and it worked, but I thought it was not the same. It was also not brewed in the States but in Eastern Europe. |

The Budweiser analogy doesn't work because in Europe it's a completely different beer and company:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budvar
However, Korean budweiser tastes different here - it's brewed here, so it pretty much just tastes like OB. However, it doesn't taste SKUNKED AND OFF like a lot of the ancient imports that are sitting in the shelves for a year in Korea. I didnt know Corona or Heineken were brewed here - why do they tend to cost 3,000 won a bottle then?

corona is definitely the worst non-korean beer i have ever tasted, other than the 10% alcohol super sized grade nine brews, but at least those get you drunk enough so that subsequent beers taste ok. if you need to add a lime to make your beer palatable, why not drink a better beer?
the reason that corona and heineken taste skunky and off is because light reacts with hops and creates a sulphur smell. beers are usually in brown bottles because it blocks most (but not all) of the light. clear and green glass offers little to no protection, hence the skunky smell. even brown bottled beer sitting around in a brightly lit store for months will eventually go skunky. i've never had a skunky beer from a can.
beer is supposed to have no smell. corona is horrible. |

Both the Czech Budweiser and American Budweser are available in the UK. Nobody calls the Czech one Budweiser though, its just known as Budvar.
I guess the Budweiser we get in the UK tastes different to that of the US, no way would it be so popular if it tasted like it does at home. |

Best beer in Korea is TsingTao. It tastes like TsingTao in the US. I've never had TsingDao in China so I wouldn't know what I'm missing.
-You can get top grade Siberian Vodka in Dongdaemun if you know where to look for 20,000won a half-litre. |

Maybe it goes better with tacos than kimchi. It tastes better in mazatlan where it is made and I think Canada gets it from there. I think the stuff here is made in Korea or China. |
