Hi there! New to the forums and looking for some direction amidst the sea of information here; I am a female American attorney licensed in two jurisdictions in the US and looking to finally pursue my dream of living and working abroad. My fiance lived in South Korea for two years some time ago and has fond memories of it, and we both think this is the right time for us to take the leap and embark on a new adventure.
I am a native English speaker, born and raised in the US and have my BA and JD from well respected US schools (BA was in English and American Literature). I've lurked enough on these boards to learn that university teaching positions are preferable to hagwon or public teaching opportunities and I'm curious whether my degrees and experience would qualify me, though I don't have any professional teaching experience. I have been a tutor and have volunteered my time to counsel American students for college admissions and have worked with them on their essays, but that's about it.
Any insight you could provide would be extremely helpful! Thanks in advance. |

If you want a job at a decent university, you usually need to be here. They rarely hire someone overseas. They'll want to interview you in person, most likely.
You've missed the hiring season for March starts (but it'd still be worthwhile to send a resume out to some schools, as some people cancel for better opportunities).
In any case, don't settle for any univ job that doesn't offer at least 3 to 4 months of paid vacation per year. Compared to public school jobs, universities that don't are a waste of your time.
Your best chance at a good job is to be here. Our university trashes resumes from people who aren't in Korea.
I think you should contact www.korvia.com and see what they have to offer. |
