I've accepted a public school job, but it looks like I won't have enough time between when my hagwon visa finishes and PS starts to do a visa run. So I'm going to have to transfer my visa. Does anyone have any recent experience with this? I understand it's a lot of paperwork. How long does it take? Is it paperwork that can be done in a morning or do you have to submit it and come back the next day? Do I need a letter of release from my hagwon even though I will be finishing the contract on time? |

I did it in August, but with no overlap of dates on the end of my last contract and the start of my new one.
I needed:
1. Passport and Alien Card
2. Medical Check (HIV/AIDS and Drugs)
3. Application Form
4. Release Letter (just a statement from my previous boss of my start and end dates. they called him while I was at immi.)
5. Contract
6. My new school's business registration number
7. Sponsor Letter (provided by the board of ed I'm working for)
My experience at immigration was documented on my blog:

They asked for the criminal record check, but I had given it to the public school office. This seemed acceptable to them.
You might run into problems if your contract/visa with your hakwon overlaps your new contract.
Good luck. |
