Trying to resign from this job because the house is so cold and there is no hot water. They cut my vacation time. Other stuff I have already posted about.
Now the vp won't give me a LOR.
What to do? |

Hello. You don't need one. You go to immigration ask for an exit order, notify the school of your resignation and leave.
If you don't do something, you'll only blame yourself in the end. |

If you have money - get the hell out.
If you don't - wait till payday and then get the hell out. Once the pay goes into your bank - go to VPs office and tell him what a tossbag he is and wish the prat luck in finding another teacher because you are going to name and shame his crappy school on Daves!
Good luck! |

Truth is no defense against libel in Korea.
And most teachers in S.K do not seem to read or post on Dave's. And there's always a steady supply of newbies who don't do their homework before coming over here. |

Am I unable to get a job? My recruiter says she can't get me another unless I have a LOR.
I don't understand this at all.
I have valid reasons for leaving.
Many valid reasons, not excuses.
Am I unable to work in Korea now? |

Get an exit order, give your resignation to the school.
LEAVE THE SCHOOL, FIND ANOTHER RECRUITER, GET A NEW JOB. OK?

I had a similarish situation to you and was on the plane home in March - come June I was back here in South Korea. And the only reason it took 3 months was because I was renewing a passport that took ages for some reason.
I didn''t get an LOR - by leaving the country you invalidate the visa so you start from scratch in reapplying - you will probably have to go to another education board depending on which one you are at currently (if you are at EPIK then apply to GEPIK)
Immigration and the new school knew about my previous experience in a hagwon and didn't count against me one iota! |

| Well, getting the LOR is the easiest for the recruiter and public school. If you talk to immigration, they will decide if you need it or not. What I did was wait till the last minute to get it. Some may say that was dumb, but it allowed me to make sure I had all the other paperwork in order. Once you get a LOR, there is a time frame in which you have to get all the other stuff. By getting it latter, it also allowed me more time to move. Just make sure you are on good terms with the first school. |

OP, go to immi, tell them you're quitting your current job, and ask (with determination) for an exit order

Go to immigration and tell them that you quit.
This means you have no sponsor and you will (should be - insist on it) be given an order to leave the country within 30 days. They will ask for your ARC and passport. They should take your ARC and place the exit order (piece of paper) into your passport. Turn in the exit order at the passport control desk when you leave (like turning in your ARC when you leave at the end of a contract).
AFTER you have your exit order your visa will have been canceled and your new employer can apply for the new visa confirmation number.
When they get the number you can then do your visa run (before your 30 days have expired).
If you can't do the visa run within that 30 day time frame you will have to leave and return on a tourist stamp until the visa paperwork is ready.
You CANNOT legally work between the time you get your exit order and the time you get your new visa. |

on a hijacking side note, if i only have a single re-entry stamp in my passport (which i've used already), then if i go to leave the country my visa will automatically be cancelled, right? |

I honestly feel gutted over this. The school is mad at me because I am wanting to leave. But I have valid reasons for wanting to leave. They are not trivial reasons or excuses.
Thus no lor.
This is my worst nightmare in coming here. I wanted a nice year.
If I don't get a lor that means I have to go back to the states and then come back, right? Not so easy for me. I have a dog. |

If you need help with your dog, you might want to check out the pet sitting thread here http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/
There are some kind people out there that might help while you figure out your visa situation. Best of luck! |

That's right. It'll be void. |

Myself and a friend had this nonsense in the flesh just this last week off a very nice American fellow - his hagwon sacked him and are going to throw him of his place out without paying him - any advice we gave him was ignored and he knew better than us. We lost the will to help him eventually because he was heading where he wanted to go - for good or bad.
If you are reading this mate - I'm sorry but we tried out damndest - I hope you realise this as the hogwon throw your arse onto the street tomorrow THAT WE TRIED TO HELP.
That playing chess does not work when the opposition are playing tennis - he'll know what this means.
OP - Forget the LOR - if you have the money - leave and get another E2 if you want to comeback - the school have obviously washed their hands of you and their treatment of you will just get worse - you stand to gain nothing by staying - please leave now.
As for your dog - This would be the time my head would hit the palm of my hands if we were having this conversation in the flesh! |

I am in a public school first of all.
Second I am reading.
I have asked for the lor and found another job and the vp said no lor. So the recruiter stopped helping me.
Now with no lor it looks like I am supposed to do the above and go home and then come back after finding another job? What a waste of time and money. I thought by signing with a public school I would be fine here. I just will never trust a recruiter again. |
